Qutaybah bin Sa'id narrated to us, he said Layth bin Sa'd narrated to us, from Uqayl, from al-Zuhri, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah informed me, from Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be well pleased with him), who said: When the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) departed from this world and Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) was appointed as Caliph after him, and some of the Arabs apostatised, Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said to Hadrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him): "How can you fight the people when the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: 'I have been commanded to fight people until they say La ilaha illallah. Whoever says La ilaha illallah has protected his wealth and life from me, except by its due right, and his reckoning is with Allah.'" Hadrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "By Allah, I shall certainly fight anyone who differentiates between prayer and Zakah, for indeed Zakah is the right due on wealth. By Allah, if they withhold from me even a single rope used for tying a camel that they used to give to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I will fight them for withholding it." Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "By Allah, it was nothing except that I saw that Allah the Exalted had opened the heart of Hadrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) for the fight, and I recognised that it was the truth." Ibn Bukayr and Hadrat Abdullah narrated from Layth the word "anaqan" (a young goat), and this is more correct.

ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے لیث بن سعد نے بیان کیا، ان سے عقیل نے، ان سے زہری نے، مجھے عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ نے خبر دی، ان سے حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے بیان کیا: جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے وصال فرمایا اور حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ خلیفہ بنے، اور بعض عرب مرتد ہو گئے، تو حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے عرض کیا: آپ لوگوں سے کیسے جنگ کریں گے جبکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا ہے: "مجھے حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ میں لوگوں سے اس وقت تک قتال کروں جب تک وہ لا الہ الا اللہ نہ کہیں، جس نے لا الہ الا اللہ کہہ لیا اس نے مجھ سے اپنا مال اور جان محفوظ کر لی سوائے شرعی حق کے، اور اس کا حساب اللہ پر ہے۔" حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! میں اس شخص سے ضرور لڑوں گا جو نماز اور زکوٰۃ میں فرق کرے، کیونکہ زکوٰۃ مال کا حق ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم! اگر وہ اونٹ باندھنے کی ایک رسی بھی مجھے نہ دیں جو وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو دیا کرتے تھے تو میں اس کے روکنے پر ان سے جنگ کروں گا۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! بات یہ ہے کہ جب میں نے دیکھا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا سینہ جہاد کے لیے کھول دیا ہے تو میں نے جان لیا کہ یہی حق ہے۔ ابن بکیر اور عبداللہ نے لیث سے "عناقاً" (ایک بکری کا بچہ) روایت کیا ہے اور یہ زیادہ صحیح ہے۔
