Abu Jamra (upon him be mercy) narrates: I used to serve as an interpreter between Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) and the people. Once Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: A delegation of the tribe of Abdul-Qays came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked: Which delegation is this? Or: Who are these people? They submitted: We are from the tribe of Rabi'a. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: Welcome to this people — or this delegation — neither disgraced nor regretful. They submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! We come to you from a distant place, and between us and you lies the tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar. We can only come to you in the sacred months. So command us with something that we may convey to those we left behind, and by which we may enter Paradise. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) commanded them four things and forbade them from four. He commanded them to believe in Allah Alone, then asked: Do you know what it means to believe in Allah Alone? They submitted: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: To testify that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), to establish prayer, to pay Zakah, to fast during Ramadan, and to give one-fifth of the war spoils. And he forbade them from using al-Dubba', al-Hantam, and al-Muzaffat. Shu'ba says: Sometimes (the narrator) said al-Naqir and sometimes al-Muqayyar. Then he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: Remember these things and convey them to those you left behind.

ابوجمرہ رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میں حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما اور لوگوں کے درمیان ترجمانی کرتا تھا۔ (ایک مرتبہ) حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا کہ قبیلہ عبدالقیس کا وفد نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا: کون سا وفد ہے؟ یا یہ کون لوگ ہیں؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا: ربیعہ خاندان سے ہیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: خوش آمدید اس قوم کو — یا اس وفد کو — نہ رسوائی ہو نہ شرمندگی۔ انہوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم دور دراز سے آپ کے پاس آئے ہیں اور ہمارے اور آپ کے درمیان کفارِ مضر کا قبیلہ حائل ہے، ہم صرف حرمت والے مہینوں میں آ سکتے ہیں۔ ہمیں کوئی ایسا حکم دے دیجیے جس کی ہم اپنے پیچھے والوں کو خبر دیں اور جس پر عمل کر کے جنت میں داخل ہو سکیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں چار باتوں کا حکم دیا اور چار سے منع فرمایا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ پر ایمان لانے کا حکم دیا، پھر ارشاد فرمایا: کیا تم جانتے ہو اللہ پر ایمان لانے کا کیا مطلب ہے؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا: اللہ اور اس کا رسول بہتر جانتے ہیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اس بات کی گواہی دینا کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اللہ کے رسول ہیں، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، رمضان کے روزے رکھنا اور مالِ غنیمت سے پانچواں حصہ دینا۔ اور چار چیزوں سے منع فرمایا: دُبّاء، حنتم اور مزفّت (کے استعمال سے)۔ شعبہ فرماتے ہیں: بسا اوقات (راوی) نقیر کہتے تھے اور بسا اوقات مقیّر۔ (آخر میں) آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ان باتوں کو یاد رکھو اور اپنے پیچھے والوں کو بھی بتا دو۔
