Hadrat ' Uthman ibn Abi Shaibah narrated to us — and the wording is his — saying: Jarir narrated to us from al-Hasan ibn 'Ubaidullah, who narrated from Ibrahim ibn Suwaid, who said: 'Alqamah led us in the Zuhr prayer and prayed five rak'ahs. When he finished, the people said: Abu Shibl, you have prayed five rak'ahs. He said: No, I have not. They said: Yes, you have. He (Ibrahim) said: I was sitting at the side among the people and was just a boy. I said: Yes, you have prayed five rak'ahs. He said to me: O one-eyed, do you say the same thing? I said: Yes. So he turned and performed two prostrations, then pronounced salutation, then said: Hadrat ' Abdullah (ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be well pleased with him) said: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led us in five rak'ahs. When he turned, the people began to whisper amongst themselves. He asked: 'What is the matter with you?' They submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), has the prayer been increased? He said: 'No.' They submitted: You prayed five rak'ahs. So he turned back, performed two prostrations, then pronounced salutation, then said: 'I am a human being like you — I forget just as you forget.' Ibn Numair added in his narration: 'When any one of you forgets, he should perform two prostrations.'

حضرت عثمان بن ابی شیبہ نے ہمیں حدیث بیان کی، لفظ انہی کے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا: ہمیں جریر نے حسن بن عبید اللہ سے حدیث بیان کی، انہوں نے ابراہیم بن سوید سے روایت کی، کہا: ہمیں علقمہ نے ظہر کی پانچ رکعتیں پڑھا دیں۔ جب انہوں نے سلام پھیرا تو لوگوں نے کہا: ابو شبل! آپ نے پانچ رکعتیں پڑھائی ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا: بالکل نہیں، میں نے ایسا نہیں کیا۔ لوگوں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں! (آپ نے ایسا ہی کیا ہے۔) ابراہیم نے کہا: میں لوگوں کے کنارے (والے حصے) میں تھا اور بچہ تھا، میں نے کہا: ہاں! آپ نے پانچ رکعتیں پڑھی ہیں۔ انہوں نے مجھ سے کہا: ایک آنکھ والے! تو بھی یہی کہتا ہے؟ میں نے کہا: جی ہاں! تو وہ مڑے اور دو سجدے کیے، پھر سلام پھیرا، پھر کہا: حضرت عبد اللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ (بن مسعود) نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں پانچ رکعتیں پڑھا دیں، جب آپ مڑے تو لوگوں نے آپس میں کھسر پھسر شروع کر دی۔ آپ نے پوچھا: ''تمہیں کیا ہوا ہے؟'' انہوں نے عرض کی: اے اللہ کے رسول! کیا نماز میں اضافہ کر دیا گیا ہے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ''نہیں۔'' لوگوں نے عرض کی: آپ نے پانچ رکعتیں پڑھائی ہیں۔ تو آپ پلٹے، پھر دو سجدے کیے، پھر سلام پھیرا، پھر فرمایا: ''میں تمہاری ہی طرح کا انسان ہوں، میں (بھی) بھول جاتا ہوں جس طرح تم لوگ بھول جاتے ہو۔'' ابن نمیر نے اپنی روایت میں یہ اضافہ کیا: ''جب تم میں سے کوئی بھول جائے تو وہ دو سجدے کر لے۔''
