English Translation
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): A group of people used to question the Prophet (peace be upon him) in mockery and ridicule. One would say, "Who is my father?" Another would ask, "My she-camel is lost, where is it?" At that time this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! Do not ask about things which, if made known to you, would grieve you; and if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made known to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past, and Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Forbearing."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما روایت کرتے ہیں کہایک قوم آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے بطور ہنسی اور مسخرے پن کے سوال کیا کرتی تھی، کوئی کہتا تھا کہ میرا باپ کون ہے؟ کوئی سوال کرتا میری اونٹنی کھو گئی ہے، وہ کہاں ہے؟ اس وقت یہ آیت نازل ہوئی:”اے ایمان والو! ایسی باتیں مت پوچھو کہ اگر تم پر ظاہر کر دی جائیں تو تمہیں ناگوار ہوں اور اگر تم نزول قرآن کے دور میں ان باتوں کو پوچھو گے تو تم پر ظاہر کر دی جائیں گی۔ سوالات گزشتہ اللہ نے معاف کر دیے اور اللہ بڑی مغفرت والا بڑے حلم والا ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1740]
