English Translation
Narrated Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): Once the Prophet (peace be upon him) delivered such a sermon that I had never heard the like of (so excellent a sermon), and in the sermon he said: "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much." Hearing this, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) covered their faces with their cloaks and the sounds of their weeping came forth. A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Who was my father?" He (peace be upon him) said, "Such-and-such a person." At that time this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! Do not ask about things which, if made known to you, would grieve you ..."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہایک دفعہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ایسا خطبہ پڑھا کہ ویسا (عمدہ) خطبہ میں نے کبھی نہیں سنا اور خطبہ میں یہ فرمایا:”جو کچھ میں جانتا ہوں اگر اس کو تم جانتے تو ہنستے تھوڑا اور روتے زیادہ”یہ سن کر اصحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم نے چہروں پر چادریں ڈال لیں اور ان کی رونے کی سی آوازیں نکلیں۔ ایک شخص نے پوچھا کہ یا رسول اللہ! میرا باپ کون تھا؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”فلاں شخص تھا تو اس وقت یہ آیت نازل ہوئی:”اے ایمان والو! ایسی باتیں مت پوچھو کہ اگر تم پر ظاہر کر دی جائیں تو تمہیں ناگوار ہوں ....۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1739]
