It is narrated from Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) who said: The sun eclipsed in the lifetime of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and he prayed. He stood for so long that one could have recited Surah al-Baqarah in that time. Then he bowed for a long time, then stood for a long time but shorter, then bowed but shorter, then prostrated. Then he stood for a long time but shorter, then bowed but shorter, then stood but shorter, then bowed but shorter, then prostrated and finished. The sun had cleared by then. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: 'The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse because of anyone's death or birth. When you see them, remember Allah.' The Companions (may Allah be well pleased with them) submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! We saw you reaching for something from your position, then we saw you stepping back.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: 'I was shown Paradise and reached for a bunch of its grapes. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world endures. I was also shown the Hellfire, and I have never seen a sight more horrifying than what I saw today, and I saw that most of its inhabitants are women.' They submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Why is that?' He declared: 'Because of their ingratitude.' It was asked: 'Ingratitude to Allah?' He declared: 'They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for good deeds done to them. If you were to be kind to one of them for a lifetime and then she sees something displeasing from you, she would say: I have never seen any good from you.'

حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے زمانے میں سورج گرہن لگا تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے نماز ادا فرمائی۔ اتنا لمبا قیام فرمایا کہ اتنی دیر میں سورۃ البقرہ پڑھی جا سکتی تھی۔ پھر لمبا رکوع فرمایا، پھر کھڑے ہوئے اور لمبا قیام فرمایا مگر پہلے سے کم، پھر لمبا رکوع فرمایا مگر پہلے سے کم، پھر سجدہ فرمایا۔ پھر لمبا قیام فرمایا مگر پہلے سے کم، پھر لمبا رکوع فرمایا مگر پہلے سے کم، پھر کھڑے ہوئے اور لمبا قیام فرمایا مگر پہلے سے کم، پھر لمبا رکوع فرمایا مگر پہلے سے کم، پھر سجدہ فرمایا اور نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو سورج صاف ہو چکا تھا۔ ارشاد فرمایا: سورج اور چاند اللہ تعالیٰ کی نشانیوں میں سے دو نشانیاں ہیں، نہ کسی کی موت سے گرہن لگتا ہے نہ کسی کی زندگی سے، لہٰذا جب تم یہ دیکھو تو اللہ کا ذکر کرو۔ صحابہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہم نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم نے دیکھا کہ آپ نے اپنی جگہ سے کوئی چیز لینے کے لیے ہاتھ بڑھایا پھر پیچھے ہٹ گئے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: مجھے جنت دکھائی گئی، میں نے اس کا ایک خوشہ توڑنا چاہا، اگر میں توڑ لیتا تو تم رہتی دنیا تک اس سے کھاتے۔ مجھے دوزخ بھی دکھائی گئی، آج سے زیادہ ہولناک منظر میں نے کبھی نہیں دیکھا اور میں نے دیکھا کہ اس کے اکثر باشندے عورتیں ہیں۔ صحابہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اس کی کیا وجہ ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: ان کے کفران کی وجہ سے۔ پوچھا گیا: کیا اللہ کا کفر کرتی ہیں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: شوہر کی ناشکری کرتی ہیں اور احسان کا انکار کرتی ہیں۔ زندگی بھر ان میں سے کسی پر احسان کرتے رہو پھر اگر ذرا سی ناگوار بات ہو جائے تو کہتی ہیں: میں نے تم سے کبھی بھلائی نہیں دیکھی۔
