Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): There was an eclipse of the sun during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed with the people. He stood for a long standing, about the length of reciting Surah al-Baqarah, then bowed for a long bowing, then raised his head and stood for a long standing, shorter than the first, then bowed for a long bowing, shorter than the first, then prostrated. Then he stood for a long standing, shorter than the first, then bowed for a long bowing, shorter than the first, then raised his head and stood for a long standing, shorter than the first, then bowed for a long bowing, shorter than the first, then prostrated. Then he finished, and the sun had cleared. He said: "The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, remember Allah." They said: O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something in your place, then we saw you draw back. He said: "I saw Paradise — or I was shown Paradise — and I reached for a bunch of grapes from it. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it for as long as the world remains. And I saw the Hellfire, and I have never seen a sight like today. And I saw that most of its inhabitants were women." They asked: Why, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Because of their ingratitude." It was asked: Do they disbelieve in Allah? He said: "They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for kindness. If you were to be kind to one of them for a lifetime and then she saw something from you she disliked, she would say: I have never seen any good from you."

سیدنا عبد اللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے زمانہ میں سورج کو گرہن لگ گیا، تو آپ نے لوگوں کو نماز (کسوف) پڑھائی، چنانچہ آپ نے سورت بقرہ (کی تلاوت) کے بقدر لمبا قیام کیا، پھر لمبا رکوع کیا، رکوع سے سر اٹھا کر لمبا قیام کیا، جو پہلے قیام کی بہ نسبت چھوٹا تھا، پھر لمبا رکوع کیا، جو پہلے رکوع کی بہ نسبت چھوٹا تھا، پھر سجدہ کیا۔ ابن یحیٰی کہتے ہیں: شاید ان دونوں نے یہ بھی کہا تھا: پھر آپ اٹھے۔ پھر لمبا قیام کیا، جو پہلے قیام کی بہ نسبت چھوٹا تھا، پھر لمبا رکوع کیا، جو پہلے رکوع کی بہ نسبت چھوٹا تھا، رکوع سے سر اٹھا کر لمبا قیام کیا، جو پہلے کی بہ نسبت چھوٹا تھا، پھر لمبا رکوع کیا، جو پہلے رکوع کی بہ نسبت چھوٹا تھا، پھر سجدہ کیا، پھر آپ نے سلام پھیرا، تو سورج گرہن ختم ہو چکا تھا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: سورج اور چاند اللہ عز وجل کی نشانیاں ہیں، ان کو کسی کی موت یا زندگی کی وجہ سے گرہن نہیں لگتا، جب آپ ایسا منظر دیکھیں تو اللہ کا ذکر کریں، صحابہ کرام نے پوچھا: اللہ کے رسول! ہم نے آپ کو دیکھا کہ آپ نے اس جگہ سے کچھ لیا ہے، پھر ہم نے آپ کو الٹے پاؤں پیچھے ہٹتے دیکھا، فرمایا: میں نے جنت دیکھی، یا مجھے جنت دکھائی گئی تو میں نے اس میں سے ایک خوشہ لینا چاہا، اگر میں وہ خوشہ لے لیتا، تو رہتی دنیا تک آپ اسے کھاتے رہتے، نیز میں نے جہنم کو بھی دیکھا، ایسا (برا) منظر میں نے (پہلے) کبھی نہیں دیکھا تھا، جیسا آج دیکھا ہے، میں نے اس میں عورتوں کی کثرت دیکھی۔ لوگوں نے پوچھا: اللہ کے رسول! اس کی وجہ کیا ہے؟ فرمایا: ان کی ناشکری۔ کسی نے پوچھا: کیا وہ اللہ کی ناشکری کرتی ہیں؟ فرمایا: شوہر کی ناشکری کرتی ہیں اور احسان نہیں مانتیں، اگر آپ زندگی بھر کسی عورت (بیوی) سے احسان کرتے رہیں، پھر وہ آپ کی طرف سے کوئی بات مرضی کے خلاف دیکھ لے تو کہتی ہے: میں نے تو تیرے اندر کبھی خیر دیکھی ہی نہیں۔ اس روایت کو ربیع بن سلیمان نے بھی امام شافعی رحمہ اللہ سے ذکر کیا ہے، مگر اس میں محمد بن یحیٰی کے شک والے الفاظ (ثم رفع) کا ذکر نہیں ہے۔[المنتقى ابن الجارود/كتاب الصلاة/حدیث: 248]
