English Translation
Waki' told us, he said: Hisham ibn Sa'd told us, from Sa'id ibn Abi Hilal, from Ibn Abi Dhubab, from Abu Hurayrah: that a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a mountain valley containing a sweet spring. It pleased him — meaning the pleasantness of the valley — so he said, "If only I would settle here and withdraw from people." Then he said, "No, not until I ask the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him." So he asked him, and he said: "The standing of one of you — meaning in the path of Allah — is better than the worship of one of you among his family for sixty years. Do you not love that Allah forgive you and that you enter Paradise? Strive in the path of Allah; whoever fights in the path of Allah for even the time it takes a she-camel to be milked, Paradise becomes obligatory for him."
