حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ أَمْلَاهُ عَلَيْنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أَسْمَاءَ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَفْضَلُ دِينَارٍ دِينَارٌ يُنْفِقُهُ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى عِيَالِهِ وَدِينَارٌ يُنْفِقُهُ عَلَى دَابَّتِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو قِلَابَةَ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ بَرًّا بِالْعِيَالِ قَالَ وَأَيُّ رَجُلٍ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يُنْفِقُ عَلَى عِيَالِهِ صِغَارًا يُعِفُّهُمْ اللَّهُ بِهِ.
English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd dictated to us, Ayyub narrated to us, from Abu Qilabah, from Abu Asma', from Thawban, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best dinar is a dinar that a man spends on his family, and a dinar that he spends on his mount in the cause of Allah." Then Abu Qilabah said on his own: "Starting with the family," and said: "What man has a greater reward than a man who spends on his young children, and through him Allah preserves their chastity?"
