حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَابْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ قَالَ عَفَّانُ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنِ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ كَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ.
English Translation
Bahz and Affan narrated to us, both said: Aban ibn Yazid narrated to us: Qatadah narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, that the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: "If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would seek a third valley; and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust." Affan said: "then Allah turns in forgiveness upon whoever repents." Affan narrated to us: Abu Awanah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If the son of Adam had two valleys" — and he mentioned the like of it.
