Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr and others narrated to us: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us: al-Rabi' ibn Sulayman narrated to us: al-Shafi'i narrated to us: Sufyan narrated from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from al-Sha'bi, from Jarir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When the zakah collector comes to you, let him not leave you except with your satisfaction.' Al-Shafi'i said: He meant - and Allah knows best - that they should pay him willingly and not withhold from him, not that they should give him from their wealth what is not due from them. He would command them and the zakah collector accordingly. What al-Shafi'i said is plausible, were it not for the addition in the narration of Abd al-Rahman ibn Hilal al-Absi.
