And in a similar vein is the hadith that Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad al-Muqri' informed us, al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, Yusuf ibn Ya'qub the judge narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr narrated to us. And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Amr ibn Abi Ja'far informed me, Imran ibn Musa narrated to us, Abu Kamil narrated to us, they said: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad narrated to us, Sulayman al-Shaybani narrated to us, he said: I heard Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "A famine struck us on the nights of Khaybar. When it was the day of Khaybar, we fell upon the domestic donkeys and slaughtered them. When the pots were boiling with them, the caller of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out: 'Overturn the pots and do not eat anything from the meat of donkeys!' Some people said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) only prohibited them because they had not been divided as spoils of war.' Others said: 'He prohibited them absolutely.'" This is the wording of the hadith of Abu Kamil. In the narration of Ibn Abi Bukayr: "And some people said: 'He prohibited them absolutely.'"
