أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نُصِيبُ مِنْ ثِمَارِ أَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ وَأَعْلَافِهِمْ وَلَا نُشَارِكُهُمْ فِي نِسَائِهِمْ وَلَا أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَكُنَّا نُسَخِّرُ الْعِلْجَ يَهْدِينَا إِلَى الطَّرِيقِ

Abu al-Hasan al-Muqri' informed us, al-Hasan ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Yusuf ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us from Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, from Jundub ibn 'Abdullah, who said: We used to take from the fruits and fodder of the people of the covenant (dhimmis), but we did not share in their women or their wealth. And we used to conscript a non-Arab man to guide us on the road.
