حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنِي شُرَحْبِيلُ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الْمَغْرِبَ فَجِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَنَهَانِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَجَاءَ صَاحِبٌ لِي فَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ مُخَالِفًا بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ.

Abu Bakr al-Hanafi told us, al-Dahhak ibn Uthman told us, Shurahbil told me, from Jabir, he said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood to pray Maghrib. I came and stood beside him on his left, but he forbade me and put me on his right. Then a companion of mine came, and we lined up behind him, and the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, led us in prayer in a single garment, crossing its two ends over each other.
