Sa'id bin Jubayr says: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Thursday, and what a Thursday!" Then he wept until his tears wetted the pebbles. I said: "O Ibn Abbas, what is the matter with Thursday?" He said: The illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) became severe, so he said: "Bring me (an inkpot and a writing tablet) that I may write for you a document, so that you will not go astray after me." (Hearing this) the people began to quarrel (over the paper and pen), though quarreling in the presence of a prophet is not fitting. They said: "What is the matter with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)? Can incoherent speech issue from him? Ask him to clarify; understand well from him." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Leave me, for that in which I am engaged is better than that in which you are occupied (quarreling and disputing)." And he enjoined three things upon them: first, to expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula; second, to treat the delegations that come in the manner I used to treat them (so that other peoples would be pleased and drawn toward Islam); and the third thing Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not mention, or Sa'id said: "I have forgotten it." اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا سعید بن جبیر کہتے ہیں کہسیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ جمعرات کا دن، کیا ہے جمعرات کا دن؟ پھر روئے یہاں تک کہ ان کے آنسوؤں سے کنکریاں تر ہو گئیں۔ میں نے کہا کہ اے ابن عباس! جمعرات کے دن سے کیا غرض ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر بیماری کی شدت ہوئی تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میرے پاس (دوات اور تختی) لاؤ کہ میں تمہیں ایک تحریر لکھ دوں تاکہ تم میرے بعد گمراہ نہ ہو جاؤ۔ (یہ سن کر) لوگ (کاغذ قلم کے متعلق) جھگڑنے لگے اور پیغمبر کے پاس جھگڑا نہیں چاہئے تھا۔ کہنے لگے کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکا کیا حال ہے؟ کیا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے بھی لغو صادر ہو سکتا ہے؟ پھر سمجھ لو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے اچھی طرح سے سمجھ لو۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میرے پاس سے ہٹ جاؤ کہ میں جس کام میں مصروف ہوں وہ اس سے بہتر ہے جس میں تم مشغول ہو (جھگڑے اور اختلاف میں) میں تم کو تین باتوں کی وصیت کرتا ہوں ایک تو یہ کہ مشرکوں کو جزیرہ عرب سے نکال دینا۔ دوسری جو سفارتیں آئیں ان کی خاطر اسی طرح کرنا جیسے میں کیا کرتا تھا۔ (تاکہ اور قومیں خوش ہوں اور ان کو اسلام کی طرف رغبت ہو) اور تیسری بات سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے نہیں کہی یا سعید نے کہا کہ میں بھول گیا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 987]
