Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl said: There was some dispute between one of the people of al-'Aqabah and Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), as happens among people. The man said, "I adjure you by Allah, how many were the people of al-'Aqabah?" (By this is meant the hypocrites who had gathered in a pass during the journey of the expedition of Tabuk to harm him, peace be upon him; Allah kept him, peace be upon him, safe from their evil.) The people said to Hudhayfah, "Since he is asking, tell him." He said, "We used to be told (by the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him) that they were fourteen men. If you too are one of them, then they were fifteen. And I swear that twelve of them were enemies of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) in this world and the Hereafter, and the remaining three offered this excuse (when they were asked and blamed): 'We did not even hear the call of the herald of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) (not to come by the way of the pass), nor did we know of these people's intention.' And (at that time) the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was in rocky ground. Then he moved on and said, '(At the next halting place) the water is little, so let no one reach the water before me.' When he (peace be upon him) went there, some (hypocrite) people had already arrived, so he (peace be upon him) cursed them that day."
اردو ترجمہ
سیدنا ابوطفیل کہتے ہیں کہعقبہ کے لوگوں میں سے ایک شخص اور سیدنا حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے درمیان کچھ جھگڑا تھا جیسے لوگوں میں ہوتا ہے۔ وہ بولا کہ میں تمہیں اللہ کی قسم دیتا ہوں کہ اصحاب عقبہ کتنے تھے؟ (اس سے مراد وہ منافقین ہیں جو غزوہ تبوک کے سفر کے دوران ایک گھاٹی میں آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو نقصان پہنچانے کے لئے اکٹھے ہوئے تھے، اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو ان کے شر سے محفوظ رکھا) لوگوں نے حذیفہ سے کہا جب وہ پوچھتا ہے تو اس کو بتا دو۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمیں (رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے) خبر دی جاتی تھی کہ وہ چودہ آدمی تھے۔ اگر تو بھی ان میں سے ہے تو وہ پندرہ تھے۔ اور میں قسم سے کہتا ہوں کہ ان میں سے بارہ تو اللہ اور اس کے رسولصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے دنیا اور آخرت میں دشمن تھے اور باقی تینوں نے یہ عذر کیا (جب ان سے پوچھا گیا اور ملامت کی گئی) کہ ہم نے تو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے منادی (کہ عقبہ کے راستے سے نہ آؤ) کی آواز بھی نہیں سنی اور نہ اس قوم کے ارادہ کی ہم خبر رکھتے ہیں۔ اور (اس وقت) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپتھریلی زمین میں تھے۔ پھر چلے اور فرمایا کہ (اگلے پڑاؤ پر) پانی تھوڑا ہے، تو مجھ سے پہلے کوئی آدمی پانی پر نہ جائے جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلموہاں تشریف لے گئے تو کچھ (منافق) لوگ وہاں پہنچ چکے تھے تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس دن ان پر لعنت فرمائی۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1941]
