Ibrahim al-Taymi narrates from his father (Yazid ibn Sharik al-Taymi): He said that we were sitting with Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man said, "If I had been in the blessed time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I would have fought jihad with him and striven in battle." Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Would you really have done so? (that is, your claim cannot be relied upon; doing is one thing and saying is another; you could not have striven more than the noble Companions did.) I see myself: we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the night of the Battle of the Confederates (Ahzab). The wind was blowing fiercely and the cold was intense. At that time he (peace be upon him) said, 'Is there any man who will go and bring me news of the disbelievers? Allah the Exalted will keep him with me on the Day of Resurrection.' Hearing this, we all remained silent and none answered (no one had the courage to go out in such cold at night to a place of danger and bring news, though the Companions' devotion and courage are famous). Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Is there any man who will bring me news of the disbelievers? And Allah the Exalted will grant him my companionship on the Day of Resurrection.' No one answered; all remained silent. At last he (peace be upon him) said, 'O Hudhayfah! Rise and bring news of the disbelievers.' Now there was no escape, because he (peace be upon him) had commanded me to go by name. He (peace be upon him) said, 'Go and bring news of the disbelievers, and do not incite them against me.' (That is, do not do anything that would make them angry with me so that they strike you or become ready for battle.) When I departed from him (peace be upon him), it was as though I were walking inside a bathhouse (that is, the cold vanished completely, indeed it felt warm; this was the blessing of his (peace be upon him) supplication. Obedience to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) is at first burdensome to the self, but when one begins it with eagerness, then in place of hardship one attains delight and comfort), until I reached them and saw that Abu Sufyan was warming his back at the fire. So I set an arrow to the bow and intended to strike. Then I remembered the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) not to do anything that would provoke their anger. Had I struck, I would surely have killed Abu Sufyan. At last I returned, and again it felt as though I were walking inside a bathhouse. When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and related the whole matter, at that moment the cold was felt (this was a great miracle of his (peace be upon him)). He (peace be upon him) covered me with a spare blanket of his, which he (peace be upon him) used to wrap around himself while praying. Wrapping myself in it, I slept, and I kept sleeping until morning. سیدنا ابراہیم التیمی اپنے والد (یزید بن شریک تیمی) سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہانہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سیدنا حذیفہ بن یمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس بیٹھے تھے کہ ایک شخص بولا: اگر میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے زمانہ مبارک میں ہوتا، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ جہاد کرتا اور لڑنے میں کوشش کرتا۔ سیدنا حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ کیا تو ایسا کرتا؟ (یعنی تیرا کہنا معتبر نہیں ہو سکتا۔ کرنا اور ہے اور کہنا اور ہے۔ صحابہ کرام نے جو کوشش کی تو اس سے بڑھ کر نہ کر سکتا تھا) میں اپنے آپ کو دیکھ رہا ہوں کہ ہم غزوہ احزاب کی رات کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ تھے، ہوا بہت تیز چل رہی تھی اور سردی بھی خوب چمک رہی تھی۔ اس وقت آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ کوئی شخص ہے جو جا کر کافروں کی خبر لائے؟ اللہ تعالیٰ اس کو قیامت کے دن میرے ساتھ رکھے گا۔ یہ سن کر ہم لوگ خاموش ہو رہے اور کسی نے جواب نہ دیا (کسی کی ہمت نہ ہوئی کہ ایسی سردی میں رات کو خوف کی جگہ میں جائے اور خبر لائے حالانکہ صحابہ کی جانثاری اور ہمت مشہور ہے)۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ کوئی شخص ہے جو کافروں کی خبر میرے پاس لائے؟ اور اللہ تعالیٰ اسے قیامت کے دن میرا ساتھ نصیب کرے گا۔ کسی نے جواب نہ دیا سب خاموش رہے۔ آخر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اے حذیفہ!
