Narrated by al-Hasan (al-Basri) (upon him be mercy): By Allah! Hadrat al-Hasan bin Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be well pleased with them both) confronted Hadrat Mu'awiya (may Allah be well pleased with him) with battalions like mountains. Hadrat 'Amr bin al-'As (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: 'I see battalions that will not turn back until they kill their opponents.' Hadrat Mu'awiya (may Allah be well pleased with him) -- who was, by Allah, the better of the two men -- said to him: 'O 'Amr! If these kill those and those kill these, who will handle the affairs of the people, who will care for their women, who will care for their dependents?' So he sent two men of Quraysh from Banu 'Abd Shams -- Hadrat ' Abd al-Rahman bin Samura and Hadrat 'Abdullah bin 'Amir bin Kurayz (may Allah be well pleased with them both) -- and said: 'Go to this man, present your offer to him, speak with him, and request of him.' They came and entered upon him, spoke, and made their request. Hadrat al-Hasan bin Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said to them: 'We are Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib; we have received a share of this wealth, and this Ummah has waded through its own blood.' They said: 'He (Mu'awiya) offers you such-and-such, and he requests of you.' He said: 'Who guarantees this for me?' They said: 'We guarantee it for you.' Whatever he asked, they said: 'We guarantee it for you.' So he made peace. Al-Hasan (al-Basri) said: I heard Hadrat Abu Bakra (may Allah be well pleased with him) say: 'I saw the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the pulpit, and Hadrat al-Hasan bin Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be well pleased with them both) was by his side. He would turn to the people at one time and to him at another, and he stated: Indeed, this son of mine is a chief (sayyid), and perhaps Allah will reconcile through him two great groups of Muslims.' Hadrat 'Ali bin Hadrat 'Abdullah told me: The hearing of al-Hasan (al-Basri) from Abu Bakra was confirmed to us only through this hadith.

ہم سے عبداللہ بن محمد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان نے بیان کیا، حضرت ابو موسیٰ سے، کہا میں نے حسن (بصری رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ) کو فرماتے سنا: اللہ کی قسم! حضرت حسن بن علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے پہاڑوں جیسے لشکروں کے ساتھ حضرت معاویہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا مقابلہ کیا۔ حضرت عمرو بن العاص رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا: مجھے ایسے لشکر نظر آتے ہیں جو اپنے ہم مقابل لوگوں کو قتل کیے بغیر پیٹھ نہیں موڑیں گے۔ حضرت معاویہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے (جو اللہ کی قسم دونوں میں سے بہتر شخص تھے) ان سے فرمایا: اے عمرو! اگر ان لوگوں نے ان لوگوں کو قتل کیا اور ان لوگوں نے ان لوگوں کو، تو لوگوں کے معاملات کون سنبھالے گا، ان کی عورتوں کو کون سنبھالے گا، ان کے بچوں کو کون سنبھالے گا؟ پھر انہوں نے قریش کے بنو عبد شمس میں سے دو آدمی حضرت عبدالرحمٰن بن سمرہ اور حضرت عبداللہ بن عامر بن کریز رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما کو بھیجا اور فرمایا: اس شخص (حسن بن علی) کے پاس جاؤ، ان کے سامنے پیشکش رکھو اور ان سے بات کرو اور ان سے درخواست کرو۔ وہ دونوں آئے اور ان کے پاس داخل ہوئے، بات کی اور ان سے عرض کیا اور درخواست کی۔ حضرت حسن بن علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے ان سے فرمایا: ہم بنو عبدالمطلب ہیں، ہمیں اس مال میں سے (بھی) حصہ ملا ہے اور اس اُمت نے اپنے خون میں غارت گری کی ہے۔ ان دونوں نے عرض کیا: وہ آپ کو ایسا ایسا (مال) پیش کرتے ہیں اور آپ سے درخواست کرتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے فرمایا: اس کا ضامن کون ہے؟ دونوں نے کہا: ہم آپ کے ضامن ہیں۔ انہوں نے جو بھی مانگا دونوں نے کہا: ہم اس کے ضامن ہیں۔ تو انہوں نے صلح کر لی۔ حسن (بصری) نے فرمایا: میں نے حضرت ابو بکرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو فرماتے سنا: میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو منبر پر دیکھا اور حضرت حسن بن علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما آپ کے پہلو میں تھے۔ آپ کبھی لوگوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوتے اور کبھی ان کی طرف اور ارشاد فرماتے: بے شک میرا یہ بیٹا سید ہے اور شاید اللہ تعالیٰ اس کے ذریعے مسلمانوں کے دو بڑے گروہوں میں صلح فرمائے۔ علی بن عبداللہ نے مجھ سے کہا: حسن (بصری) کا حضرت ابو بکرہ سے سماع ہمارے لیے صرف اسی حدیث سے ثابت ہوا ہے۔
