Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us... from Aisha who said: The people complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the lack of rain. He ordered a pulpit to be placed for him in the prayer ground and promised the people a day to come out. Aisha said: The Messenger of Allah went out when the edge of the sun appeared. He sat on the pulpit, said the takbir, and praised Allah. Then he said: 'You have complained of drought in your lands and the delay of rain from its proper time. Allah the Almighty has commanded you to supplicate to Him and promised to answer you.' Then he said: 'All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. There is no god but Allah; He does what He wills. O Allah, You are Allah, there is no god but You. You are the Self-Sufficient and we are the needy. Send down rain upon us and make what You send down for us strength and provision until a time.' Then he raised his hands and did not stop raising them until the whiteness of his armpits was visible. Then he turned his back to the people and reversed his cloak while raising his hand. Then he turned to the people, descended, and prayed two units. Allah the Most High produced clouds, and they thundered and flashed, then it rained by the permission of Allah. He did not reach his mosque until streams were flowing. When he saw their haste to seek shelter, he laughed until his molars were visible and said: 'I bear witness that Allah is over all things competent and that I am His servant and messenger.'
