Abu Tahir al-Faqih and Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us... from Nafi', from Ibn Umar who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to go out on the Day of al-Fitr and al-Adha walking, and the spear would be carried before him, then planted in front of him during the prayer as a sutrah (barrier). That was before houses were built around the prayer ground. He also did that at Arafah. His saying 'walking' is unusual; I have not recorded it from Ibn Umar's hadith except through this chain, and it is not strong. The other wordings are well-known.
