أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْمِهْرَجَانِيُّ أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمُزَكِّي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْعَبْدِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ثنا مَالِكٌ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الْوَسَطَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَاعْتَكَفَ عَامًا حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةَ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ وَهِيَ اللَّيْلَةُ الَّتِي يَخْرُجُ مِنْ صَبِيحَتَهَا مِنَ اعْتِكَافِهِ فَقَالَ مَنْ كَانَ اعْتَكَفَ مَعِي فَلْيَعْتَكِفِ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوَاخِرَ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ ثُمَّ أُنْسِيتُهَا وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي فِي صَبِيحَتِهَا أَسْجُدُ فِي مَاءٍ وَطِينٍ فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ وَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي كُلِّ وِتْرٍ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ فَأَمْطَرَتِ السَّمَاءُ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ وَكَانَ الْمَسْجِدُ عَلَى عَرِيشٍ فَوَكَفَ الْمَسْجِدُ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ فَأَبْصَرَتْ عَيْنَايَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ وَأَنْفِهِ أَثَرُ الْمَاءِ وَالطِّينِ مِنْ صَبِيحَةِ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ

Abu Ahmad al-Mihrajani informed us, Abu Bakr ibn Ja'far al-Muzakki informed us, Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Abdi narrated to us, Ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Malik narrated to us from Yazid ibn Abdullah ibn al-Had from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taymi from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to observe i'tikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan. One year he observed i'tikaf until the night of the twenty-first — the night whose morning he was to leave his i'tikaf — and said: 'Whoever has been observing i'tikaf with me, let him observe i'tikaf during the last ten days. I was shown this night and then made to forget it. I saw myself prostrating in water and mud on its morning. So seek it in the last ten and seek it in every odd night.' Abu Sa'id said: The sky rained that night. The mosque had a thatched roof and it leaked. Abu Sa'id said: My own eyes saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) leave with traces of water and mud on his forehead and nose, on the morning of the twenty-first.
