Abdah told us: Hisham told us, from his father, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: 'The dead person is indeed punished because of his family's weeping over him.' That was mentioned to Aishah, and she said: 'He was mistaken' — meaning Ibn Umar — 'the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, only passed by a grave and said: The owner of this grave is being punished while his family weeps over him.' Then she recited this verse: {No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another}.
