Jarir told us, from 'Abd al-'Aziz b. Rufay', from 'Ubaydullah Ibn al-Qibtiyyah, who said: al-Harith b. Abi Rabi'ah and 'Abdullah b. Safwan came in - and I was with them - to Umm Salamah, and asked her about the army that would be swallowed up by the earth. This was in the days of Ibn al-Zubayr. Umm Salamah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, 'A seeker of refuge will take refuge at the Ka'bah, so Allah will send an army against him; and when they are at a barren tract of land, they will be swallowed up by the earth.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what about one who was brought out unwillingly?' He said, 'He will be swallowed up along with them, but he will be raised up on the Day of Resurrection according to his intention.'" [The narrator] said: I mentioned this to Abu Ja'far, and he said, "It is the barren tract near Madinah."
