Aswad told us: Sharik told us, from Qays ibn Wahb, from a man of Banu Suwa'ah, who said: I asked A'ishah about the character of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said, "Do you not recite the Qur'an: 'Indeed, you are of a great moral character'?" He said: I said, "Tell me about that." She said: "I prepared food for him, and Hafsah also prepared food for him. So I said to my maidservant: Go, and if she comes with the food and sets it down first, throw the food away. So she came with the food, and my maidservant threw it, and the dish fell and broke; it was served on a leather mat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered it up and said: 'Make up for it,' or 'make up for it yourselves' - Aswad was uncertain - 'a dish in place of your dish,' and he said nothing more."
