حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْمَازِنِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي مَازِنٍ عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ الْمَازِنِيِّ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا قَالَ قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَتْبَعُ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ لِأَضْرِبَهُ إِذْ وَقَعَ رَأْسُهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَصِلَ إِلَيْهِ سَيْفِي فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ قَتَلَهُ غَيْرِي.

Yazid narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from his father, who said: Abu Dawud al-Mazini said -- Yazid narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from his father, who said: Muhammad said: My father narrated to me, from a man of Banu Mazin, from Abu Dawud al-Mazini -- who had witnessed the battle of Badr -- who said: I was pursuing a man among the polytheists to strike him, when his head fell before my sword could reach him, and I realized that someone other than me had killed him.
