Husayn ibn Muhammad told us, Ibn Ayyash told us, from Asid ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Khath'ami, from Farwah ibn Mujahid al-Lakhmi, from Uqbah ibn Amir, who said: I met the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said to me: O Uqbah ibn Amir, maintain ties with one who cuts you off, give to one who deprives you, and forgive one who wrongs you. He said: Then I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, again, and he said to me: O Uqbah ibn Amir, control your tongue, weep over your sin, and let your house suffice you. He said: Then I met the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, again, and he said to me: O Uqbah ibn Amir, shall I not teach you surahs the like of which has not been revealed in the Torah, nor the Psalms, nor the Gospel, nor the Qur'an (elsewhere) — let no night pass over you without reciting them: Say, He is Allah, the One; and Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak; and Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind. Uqbah said: No night has passed over me since without my reciting them, and it is only right that I never abandon them, since the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded me with them. And Farwah ibn Mujahid, whenever he narrated this hadith, used to say: How many there are who do not control their tongue, or do not weep over their sin, or whose house does not suffice them!
