Abd Allah ibn al-Harith told us, al-Aslami told me, Abu Ali al-Hamdani told me, from Uqbah ibn Amir, who said: We went out with Uqbah ibn Amir on a journey we undertook, and the time for prayer came, so we asked him to lead us, but he refused and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: No servant leads a people in prayer except that he takes on responsibility for whatever concerns their prayer — if he does well, it is to his credit, and if he does badly, it is against him.
