Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Abu Malik narrated to us, from Rib'i ibn Hirash, from Hudhayfah, that a man was brought before Allah, Mighty and Sublime, and He said, "What did you do in the world?" The man said to Him, "I did not do a single atom's weight of good that I could hope for from You." He said this three times, and on the third time he said, "O Lord, You had given me abundance of wealth in the world, and I used to deal with people, and it was part of my character that I would overlook their debts, and I used to grant ease to the one in easy circumstances and give respite to the one in difficulty." So He, Mighty and Sublime, said, "We are more entitled to that than you; overlook the sins of My servant," and he was forgiven. Abu Mas'ud said, "This is how I heard it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." And another man instructed his family, when he died, to burn him, then grind him, then scatter him on a day of fierce wind. So they did that to him, and he was gathered before his Lord, Mighty and Sublime, who said to him, "What led you to do this?" He said, "O Lord, no servant was more disobedient to You than I, and I hoped that I would escape." Allah, Mighty and Sublime, said, "Overlook the sins of My servant," and he was forgiven. Abu Mas'ud said, "This is how I heard it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him."
