Sufyan told us, Ibn al-Munkadir told us, who said: I heard Jabir say: A man from the bedouins came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and became Muslim, and pledged allegiance to him upon emigration. Not long after, he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "Release me from my pledge." He said, "I will not release you." Then he came to him and said, "Release me," and he said, "I will not release you." Then he came to him and said, "Release me," and he said, "No." So the man fled. Then he said: "Medina is like a furnace-bellows; it expels its impurities and refines its good."
