Abu 'Amir told us, Dawud ibn Qays told us, from 'Iyad ibn 'Abd Allah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to go out on the day of the Fast-Breaking festival and lead the people in those two rak'ahs, then he would come forward and face the people while they were sitting, and say, "Give charity, give charity, give charity," three times. He said: Most of those among the people who gave charity were women, with earrings, rings, and other items. If he had a need to send out an expedition, he would mention it, and if not, he would leave. 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith narrated it to us, saying: Dawud told me and mentioned it, saying: "And if he wanted to send out an expedition against the people, he would mention it, and if not, he would leave."
