حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَوَالِي حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ أُخْبِرَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَعَادَ تَخَلَّفَ حَتَّى إِذَا أَخَذَ النَّاسُ مَجَالِسَهُمْ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ الْقَوْمُ تَشَذَّبُوا عَنْهُ فَقَامَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِيَجْلِسَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ فَقَالَ لَا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ خَيْرَ الْمَجَالِسِ أَوْسَعُهَا ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى وَجَلَسَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ وَاسِعٍ.

Abu Amir told us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Mawali told us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Amrah al-Ansari told me, who said: Abu Sa'id was informed of a funeral, so he set off but stayed behind until the people had taken their seats, then he came, and when the people saw him, they made way for him, and one of them stood up to let him sit in his place. He said: "No — I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'The best gatherings are the most spacious ones.'" Then he moved away and sat in a spacious gathering.
