English Translation
Muhammad ibn al-Nadr al-Azdi narrated to us, from Mu'awiyah ibn Amr, from Za'idah, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from Alqamah, from Abdullah who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in prayer and added or subtracted (from the number of rak'ahs). Mansur said: Ibrahim was the one who was uncertain whether it was from Alqamah or from Abdullah. Abdullah said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) completed the prayer and turned to face us, we said: 'O Messenger of Allah, has something new been introduced in the prayer?' He said: 'No.' We told him what he had done. He folded his leg, faced the qiblah, and performed two prostrations, then turned and said: 'If something new had been introduced in the prayer, I would have told you. But I am only a human like you; I forget as you forget. When I forget, remind me. And whichever of you has doubt in his prayer, let him consider what is most likely correct, complete it, give the closing salutation, then perform two prostrations.'
