Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:9802 حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّخَعِيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي صَاحِبُ هَذِهِ الدَّارِ يَعْنِي عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ «الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى مِيقَاتِهَا» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَاذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَاذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ يَسْلَمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِكَ» ثُمَّ سَكَتَ وَلَوِ اسْتَزَدْتُهُ لَزَادَنِي
English Translation
Ali ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, from Abu Nu'aym, from Abu Mu'awiyah Amr ibn Abdullah al-Nakha'i, from Abu Amr al-Shaybani who said: The owner of this house - meaning Abdullah ibn Mas'ud - told me: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): 'O Messenger of Allah, which deeds are best?' He said: 'Prayer at its proper time.' I said: 'Then what, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Dutifulness to parents.' I said: 'Then what, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'That people be safe from your tongue.' Then he fell silent, and had I asked him for more, he would have given me more.
