Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:876 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ قَالَا ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنِ الْأَسْلَعِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي الْأَعْرَجِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَخْدُمُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا أَسْلَعُ قُمْ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ فَسَكَتَ عَنِّي سَاعَةً حَتَّى جَاءَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِالصَّعِيدِ التَّيَمُّمِ قَالَ «قُمْ يَا أَسْلَعُ فَتَيَمَّمْ» قَالَ ثُمَّ أَرَانِي الْأَسْلَعَ كَيْفَ عَلَّمَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ التَّيَمُّمَ قَالَ ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِكَفَّيْهِ الْأَرْضَ ثُمَّ نَفَضَهُمَا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهِمَا وَجْهَهُ حَتَّى أَمَرَّ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ ثُمَّ أَعَادَهُمَا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ فَمَسَحَ بِكَفَّيْهِ الْأَرْضَ فَدَلَكَ إِحْدَاهُمَا بِالْأُخْرَى ثُمَّ نَفَضَهُمَا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ظَاهِرَهُمَا وَبَاطِنَهُمَا
English Translation
Al-Asla' — a man from Banu al-A'raj ibn Ka'b — narrated: I used to serve the Prophet (peace be upon him). He said to me: "O Asla', get up and show me how to do such-and-such." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am in a state of major ritual impurity." He was silent for a while until Jibril (peace be upon him) came with tayammum. He said: "Get up, O Asla', and perform tayammum." Then al-Asla' showed how the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught him tayammum: He struck the ground with both palms, shook them off, wiped his face including his beard, then struck the ground again, rubbed one hand against the other, shook them off, then wiped his forearms — both outer and inner sides.
