Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:875 حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ السَّيْلَحِينِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَا ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ بَدْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَّا يُقَالُ لَهُ الْأَسْلَعُ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَخْدُمُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَرْحَلُ لَهُ فَقَالَ لِي ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ «يَا أَسْلَعُ قُمْ فَارْحَلْ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِآيَةِ الصَّعِيدِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قُمْ يَا أَسْلَعُ فَتَيَمَّمْ» قَالَ فَقُمْتُ فَتَيَمَّمْتُ ثُمَّ رَحَلْتُ لَهُ فَسَارَ حَتَّى مَرَّ بِمَاءٍ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا أَسْلَعُ مِسَّ أَوْ أَمِسَّ هَذَا جِلْدَكَ» قَالَ وَأَرَانِي أَبِي التَّيَمُّمَ كَمَا أَرَاهُ أَبُوهُ «ضَرْبَةٌ لِلْوَجْهِ وَضَرْبَةٌ لِلْيَدَيْنِ إِلَى الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ»
English Translation
Al-Asla' narrated: I used to serve the Prophet (peace be upon him) and saddle his mount. One night he said to me: "O Asla', get up and saddle." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am in a state of major ritual impurity." He was silent. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him with the verse of tayammum. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Get up, O Asla', and perform tayammum." So I got up and performed tayammum, then saddled for him. He traveled until he passed by water and said: "O Asla', let this touch your skin." His father showed him tayammum as his grandfather had shown him: "One strike for the face and one strike for the hands up to the elbows."
