English Translation
Zayd ibn Wahb said: Two men disputed about a verse of the Quran and came to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud. One said: 'Abu Amrah taught me to recite it.' The other said: 'Umar taught me.' When Umar was mentioned, Abdullah wept while standing, wiped his eyes, and shook his hand over the pebbles, then said: 'It is clearer than the path of Silhin.' Then he said: 'Recite it as Umar taught you. Indeed, any Muslim household that did not grieve for Umar on the day he was struck is a household of evil. Umar was the most God-fearing among us and the most proficient in reciting the Book of Allah.'
