English Translation
Zayd ibn Wahb said: I and a man went to Abdullah and found him standing in prayer with two men flanking him. When he finished, they asked him about a verse. He said to one of them: 'Who taught you to recite?' He said: 'Umar.' He asked the other: 'Who taught you?' He said: 'Abu Hakim.' He said: 'Recite as Umar taught you.' Then he wept until his tears wet the pebbles, then said: 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was an impregnable fortress for Islam - people would enter Islam and not leave it. When Umar was struck down, the fortress was breached.'
