Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8048 حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ثنا حُمَيْدٌ الْخَيَّاطُ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ يَحْيَى صَاحِبِ الْقَصَبِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا غَالِبٍ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللهِ ﷻ {رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ} فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ نَزَلَتْ فِي الْخَوَارِجِ حِينَ رَأَوْا تَجَاوُزَ اللهِ عَنِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَنِ الْأُمَّةِ وَالْجَمَاعَةِ قَالُوا يَا لَيْتَنَا كُنَّا مُسْلِمِينَ
English Translation
Abu Ghalib said: I asked Abu Ghalib about the saying of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: {Perhaps those who disbelieved will wish that they had been Muslims} [15:2]. He said: Abu Umamah narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he said it was revealed regarding the Kharijites - when they saw Allah's forgiveness of the Muslims and the community, they said: "If only we had been Muslims."
