Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8037 حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ قَالَا ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ صُبَيْحٍ ثنا أَبُو غَالِبٍ قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا بِدِمَشْقَ إِذْ جِيءَ بِسَبْعِينَ رَأْسًا مِنْ رُءُوسِ الْخَوَارِجِ فَنُصِبَتْ عَلَى دَرَجِ دِمَشْقَ وَجَاءَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّى مَا بَدَا لَهُ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ بَكَى ثُمَّ قَالَ «كِلَابُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ» يَقُولُ اللهُ ﷻ {هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ} ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ اسْوَدَّتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ أَكَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ} فَهُمْ هَؤُلَاءِ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ هَذَا شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَمْ شَيْئًا تَقُولُهُ بِرَأْيِكَ؟ قَالَ «إِنِّي إِذًا لَجَرِيءٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَا ثَلَاثٍ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى سَبْعٍ»
English Translation
Abu Ghalib said: While I was in Damascus, seventy heads of the Kharijites were brought and displayed on the steps of Damascus. Abu Umamah, the companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), came and entered the mosque and prayed as he wished. When he came out, he wept and said: "Dogs of the people of the Fire" - and recited Allah the Mighty and Majestic says: {It is He who sent down to you the Book, in it are verses that are precise, they are the foundation of the Book, and others that are ambiguous. As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow what is ambiguous thereof.} Then he recited: {On the Day when some faces will turn white and some faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black - Did you disbelieve after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject} - these are them. I said: "O Abu Umamah, is this something you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) or something you say from your own opinion?" He said: "I would indeed be bold. I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) more than once, twice, or three times - until he reached seven."
