English Translation
Narrated Handhala the scribe: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent Ali ibn Abi Talib and Khalid ibn al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with them) to Yemen and said, 'When you come together, Ali is the commander. When you separate, each of you is in charge of his own work.' Khalid ibn al-Walid wrote to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and began with his own name, and the Prophet did not object. Ali wrote to the Prophet and began with the Prophet (peace be upon him) (i.e., mentioning the Prophet's name first), and he was pleased with him.
