English Translation
Jabir ibn Samurah said: "We used to say in our prayer behind the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): 'Peace be upon the servants of Allah — peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'What is the matter with you? Allah Himself is al-Salam (the Source of Peace). When one of you sits in prayer, let him say: All greetings, prayers, and good deeds are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah — for when you say that, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and on earth. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger. Then let him choose whichever supplication he pleases.'"
