Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10549 حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ وَشُعْبَةُ قَالَا ثنا جَامِعُ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ أَهَلَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فَسِرْنَا لَيْلًا فَنَزَلْنَا دَهْسًا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَنْ يَكْلَأُنَا؟» قَالَ بِلَالٌ أَنَا قَالَ «إِذًا تَنَامُ» قَالَ فَنَامُوا حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَاسْتَيْقَظَ فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ وَمِنْهُمْ عُمَرُ وَلَمْ يَسْتَيْقِظِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ اهْبِطُوا فَاسْتَيْقَظَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «افْعَلُوا كَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ» فَلَمَّا فَعَلُوا قَالَ «هَكَذَا لِمَنْ نَامَ مِنْكُمْ أَوْ نَسِيَ»
English Translation
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) set out from Hudaybiyyah and we traveled by night and stopped on soft ground. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Who will keep watch for us?' Bilal said: 'I will.' He said: 'Then you will sleep.' So they all slept until the sun rose. Some people woke up, including 'Umar, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not wake up. They said: 'Move on.' Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) woke up and said: 'Do as you used to do.' When they did, he said: 'This is for whoever among you sleeps or forgets.'"
