English Translation
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): During the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the caliphate of Abu Bakr, and (the first) two years of the caliphate of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), it was such that when anyone gave three divorces all at once, it was counted as only one. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The people have begun to hasten in a matter in which they had been given respite; so if we enforce it upon them, it would be appropriate. So he enforced it (i.e., he issued the ruling that whoever gives three divorces at once, all three take effect). [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 850]

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے دور میں اور سیدنا ابوبکر کے دور خلافت اور سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے دور خلافت میں بھی (پہلے) دو برس تک ایسے تھا کہ جب کوئی یکبارگی تین طلاق دیتا تھا تو وہ ایک ہی شمار کی جاتی تھی۔ پھر سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ لوگوں نے جلدی کرنا شروع کی اس بات میں جس میں انہیں مہلت ملی ہے، پس اگر ہم اس کو جاری کر دیں تو مناسب ہے۔ پھر انہوں نے جاری کر دیا (یعنی یہ حکم دیدیا کہ جو کوئی یکبارگی تین طلاق دے تو تینوں واقع ہو جائیں گی)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 850]
