English Translation
Narrated Ibn Sirin: For twenty years a man whom I did not consider suspect used to narrate to me that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) divorced his wife with three divorces during her menses and was commanded to take her back. I did not consider his report suspect, yet I did not fully understand the hadith (what was correct), until I met Abu Ghallab Yunus ibn Jubayr al-Bahili, and he was a reliable man. He narrated to me: I asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he said: I divorced my wife once (a single divorce) while she was in her menses, and I was commanded to take her back. The narrator said: Then I asked: Was that divorce counted against him? (i.e., if he gives two more, do they combine with it to complete three?) He said: Why not — even if he became incapable or foolish (this Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, said of himself) — meaning: it would be foolishness not to count that divorce. ابن سیرین کہتے ہیں کہبیس برس تک مجھ سے ایک شخص جس کو میں مہتم نہیں جانتا تھا روایت کرتا تھا کہ سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے اپنی عورت کو تین طلاق حالت حیض میں دیں تھیں اور ان کو رجوع کرنے کا حکم ہوا تھا۔ میں اس کی اس روایت کو مہتم نہ کرتا تھا اور نہ حدیث کو بخوبی جانتا تھا (کہ صحیح کیا ہے) یہاں تک کہ میں ابوغلاب یونس بن جبیر باہلی سے ملا اور وہ پکے آدمی تھے۔ پس انہوں نے مجھ سے بیان کیا کہ میں نے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے اپنی بیوی کو حیض کی حالت میں ایک طلاق دی تھی تو مجھے رجعت کا حکم دیا گیا۔ راوی نے کہا پھر میں نے پوچھا کہ وہ طلاق بھی ان پر شمار کی گئی تھی؟ (یعنی اگر دو طلاق دو تو وہ ملا کر تین پوری ہو جائیں) انہوں نے کہا کہ کیوں نہیں کیا اگر وہ عاجز ہو گیا یا احمق ہو گیا (یہ سیدنا عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنے آپ کو خود کہا) یعنی اگر اس طلاق کو نہ گنوں تو حماقت ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 849]
