English Translation
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): 'Abdullah (the father of Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him) died and left behind nine or seven daughters (the narrator is in doubt). So I married a previously married woman (one who is divorced or whose husband has died). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me, "O Jabir (may Allah be pleased with you), have you married?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace be upon him) said, "A virgin or a previously married woman?" So I said, "O Messenger of Allah! A previously married woman." He (peace be upon him) said, "Why did you not marry a virgin, so that she might play with you and you play with her?" (or he, peace be upon him, said, "so that she might jest with you and you with her?"). Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, "My father 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) died and left behind nine or seven daughters, and I did not deem it fitting to bring in a girl like those girls. I deemed it good to bring (into my marriage, for their upbringing) such a wife who would watch over them and set their affairs right." So he (peace be upon him) said, "May Allah the Exalted bless you," or he said some other words of goodness.
Urdu Translation
سیدنا جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہسیدنا عبداللہ (جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کے والد) وفات پا گئے اور نو یا سات بیٹیاں (راوی کو شک ہے) چھوڑ گئے۔ تو میں نے ثیب عورت (جو مطلقہ ہو یا جس کا خاوند فوت ہو چکا ہو) سے شادی کر لی۔ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مجھے فرمایا کہ اے جابر (رضی اللہ عنہ) تو نے شادی کر لی ہے؟ میں نے عرض کیا جی ہاں یا رسول اللہ!۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ کنواری سے یا ثیبہ عورت سے؟ تو میں نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ! ثیبہ سے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ کنواری سے کیوں نہ کی کہ وہ تم سے کھیلتی اور تم اس سے کھیلتے یا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے کہا کہ وہ تجھ سے ہنسی مذاق کرتی اور تم اس سے کیا کرتے؟ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا کہ میرے والد عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ وفات پا گئے اور نو یا سات بیٹیاں چھوڑ گئے، اور میں نے یہ مناسب نہ سمجھا کہ ان لڑکیوں جیسی ہی لڑکی لے آؤں۔ میں نے یہ اچھا سمجھا کہ (اپنے نکاح میں اور ان کی تربیت کے لئے) ایسی بیوی لاؤں جو ان کی نگرانی کرے۔ اور ان کی اصلاح کرے۔ تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ تیرے لئے برکت کرے یا پھر کوئی اور بھلائی کی بات فرمائی۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 799]
