English Translation
Narrated al-A'mash, who said: I heard Hajjaj bin Yusuf saying in a sermon: Keep the order of the Noble Qur'an that Jibril (peace be upon him) set: let the surah first in which al-Baqara is mentioned, then the surah in which al-Nisa is mentioned, then the surah in which Al 'Imran is mentioned. Al-A'mash said: Then I met Ibrahim and informed him of this matter, and he condemned it. Then he said that 'Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid narrated to me that he was with 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he came to Jamratul-'Aqaba and stood in the bottom of the valley, with the Jamra in front of him, and cast at it seven pebbles from behind the water-channel, and would say "Allahu Akbar" at each pebble. (The narrator) said: I said to him, "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman! (this is the epithet of 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with them both) the people cast the pebbles standing from above." So he said, "By that One worshipped besides whom there is no deity, this is the place of the one upon whom Surat al-Baqara was revealed" (that is, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, cast the pebbles from here).
Urdu Translation
اعمش سے روایت ہے کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے حجاج بن یوسف سے خطبہ میں کہتے ہوئے سنا: قرآن شریف کی وہی ترتیب رکھو کہ جو جبرائیل علیہ السلام نے رکھی ہے۔ وہ سورت پہلے ہو جس میں بقرہ کا ذکر ہے پھر وہ سورت جس میں نساء کا ذکر ہے۔ پھر وہ سورت جس میں آل عمران کا ذکر ہے۔ اعمش نے کہا کہ پھر میں ابراہیم سے ملا تو ان کو اس بات کی خبر دی تو انہوں نے اس کو برا بھلا کہا اور پھر کہا کہ مجھ سے عبدالرحمن بن یزید نے روایت کی کہ وہ سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما کے ساتھ تھے اور وہ جمرہ عقبہ پر آئے اور بطن الوادی میں، جمرہ کو سامنے رکھتے ہوئے کھڑے ہوئے اور اس کو سات کنکریاں نالہ کے پیچھے سے ماریں اور ہر کنکری پر اللہ اکبر کہتے تھے۔ (راوی نے) کہا کہ میں نے ان سے کہا کہ اے ابوعبدالرحمن! (یہ کنیت ہے سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما کی) لوگ تو اوپر سے کھڑے ہو کر کنکریاں مارتے ہیں، تو انہوں نے کہا کہ اس معبود کی قسم جس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں ہے، یہ جگہ اس کی ہے جس پر سورۃ البقرہ اتری ہے (یعنی رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے یہیں سے کنکریاں ماری تھیں)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 723]
