English Translation
Ubadah ibn al-Walid ibn Ubadah ibn al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) says: My father and I set out to the tribe of the Ansar for the purpose of acquiring knowledge, lest any of them should be left (they might die or migrate here and there). So the first we met was Abu al-Yasar, who was a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). With him was his slave, who was carrying a bundle of writings (letters). And on the body of Abu al-Yasar was a sheet and a garment called Ma'afiri, and on his slave too was a sheet and a Ma'afiri garment (that is, both master and slave were wearing the same kind of clothing). I said to him, "O uncle, you seem somewhat grieved." He said, "So-and-so, the son of so-and-so, of the tribe of Banu Haram owed me a debt. I went to his household, greeted, and asked, 'Where is that man?' They said, 'He is not here.' Meanwhile a young son of his came out. I asked him, 'Where is your father?' He said, 'On hearing your voice he has gone into my mother's little enclosure.' Then I called out and said, 'O so-and-so! Come out; I know where you are.' Hearing this, he came out. I said, 'Why are you hiding from me?' He said, 'By Allah, I will not lie to you; by Allah, I was afraid that I might speak a false word to you or make a promise and break it, and you are a Companion of the Messenger; and by Allah, I am in need.' I adjured him by Allah and asked, 'Are you really in need?' So he swore by Allah and said, 'I am in need.' I again adjured him and asked, and he again swore; I adjured him again, and he again swore by Allah. Then his bond or document (the debt-note) was brought. Abu al-Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) erased it with his own hand and said, 'If money comes to you, pay it; otherwise you are free (of it). For I bear witness—the sight of these two eyes of mine saw'—and Abu al-Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) put his two fingers on his eyes—'and these two ears of mine heard, and my heart retained'—and Abu al-Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) pointed toward the vein of his heart—'that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say, "Whoever grants respite to one in difficulty or forgives the debt, Allah the Exalted will keep him under His shade."'" Ubadah said: I said to him, "O uncle, if you take your slave's sheet and give him your Ma'afiri garment, then you too will have a complete set, and he too will have a set." Abu al-Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed his hand over my head and said, "O Allah, bless this boy. O my nephew! These two eyes of mine saw and these two ears heard, and this heart of mine retained"—and he pointed toward the vein of his heart—"that he (peace be upon him) used to say, 'Feed the slave-woman and the slave what you eat, and clothe them with what you wear.' And if I give him the goods of this world, that is easier for me than that he should take my good deeds on the Day of Resurrection." Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then we went on until we reached Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) in his mosque; he was praying, wrapped in a single garment. I stepped over people's necks and sat down between him and the qiblah. I said, "May Allah the Exalted have mercy on you; you pray in a single garment, while your (other) sheet is placed at your side." He gestured toward my chest with his hand in this way, spreading his fingers and bending them like a bow, and said, "I wished that a fool like you would come to me, then see what I do, and do likewise. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to this mosque of ours, and in his (peace be upon him) hand was a stick of Ibn Tab (dates). He (peace be upon him) saw phlegm in the mosque toward the qiblah (someone had spat), so he (peace be upon him) scraped it off with the stick. Then he turned toward us and said, 'Which of you likes that Allah the Exalted should turn His face away from him?' Hearing this we were afraid. Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Which of you wishes that Allah the Exalted should turn His face away from him?' Hearing this we were afraid. Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Which of you wishes that Allah the Exalted should turn His face away from him?' We submitted, 'O Messenger of Allah! None of us wishes that.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'When any of you stands in prayer, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, is before his face (al-Nawawi said, that is, the direction which Allah the Exalted has given majesty, or the Ka'bah), so let him not spit before his face, nor to his right, but to his left, beneath his left foot. And if the phlegm wishes to come out quickly, let him spit into his garment and do thus,' then he folded his garment fold upon fold. After that he said, 'Bring me some perfume.' A youth of our tribe leapt up and ran to his house and brought perfume in his palm. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) applied that perfume to the tip of the stick and applied the perfume where the mark of that phlegm was on the mosque." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is from this hadith that you keep perfume in your mosques. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the expedition of Batn Buwat (it is one of the mountains of Juhaynah). He (peace be upon him) was in search of Majdi ibn Amr al-Juhani (who was a disbeliever), and our condition was such that among five, six, and seven men there was one camel, which we mounted in turns. So the turn of an Ansari came; he made the camel kneel, mounted it, then made it rise, and the camel balked a little. That Ansari said, "Sha!" (this is a word for scolding a camel), "may Allah curse you." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Who is this who curses his camel?" That Ansari said, "It is I, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace be upon him) said, "Get off this camel, and let not one who has been cursed remain with us. Do not invoke against your own selves, your children, or your property, lest this invocation coincide with an hour in which something is asked of Allah the Exalted and He grants it (so that your evil invocation too is granted and calamity befalls you)." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went on with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him); when evening came and we approached a spring of the Arabs, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Who will go ahead of us and set right this cistern, drink himself, and give us to drink?" Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I stood up and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! I am that man." He (peace be upon him) said, "And who will go with Jabir?" So Jabbar ibn Sakhr rose. In short, we two men went to the well/spring and threw one or two buckets into the cistern, then plastered it with clay. After that we began filling it with water until we filled it to the brim. The first to appear to us was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He (peace be upon him) said, "Do you two give me permission (to drink and water my animals)?" We submitted, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace be upon him) let loose his she-camel; it drank, then he (peace be upon him) pulled its rein and it stopped drinking and urinated. Then he (peace be upon him) took it aside and made it kneel. After that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to the cistern and performed ablution from it. I too stood up and performed ablution from where he (peace be upon him) had performed ablution. Jabbar ibn Sakhr (may Allah be pleased with him) went off to relieve himself. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up to pray. On my body was a single sheet. I began turning over both its ends, but it was too small, and it had fringes. At last I turned it inside out, then turned both its ends, then tied it around my neck; after that I came and stood on the left side of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He (peace be upon him) took my hand, turned me around, and stood me on his right side. Then Jabbar ibn Sakhr came; he too performed ablution and stood on the left side of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) (to pray). He (peace be upon him) took both our hands and pushed us back until he stood us behind him (from this it is known that so much action in prayer is permissible). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) began staring at me, and I was unaware. When I became aware, he (peace be upon him) gestured with his hand that I should tie my waist (so that the private part not be exposed). When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, he said, "O Jabir!" I submitted, "I am present, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "When the sheet is wide, turn over both its ends, and when it is narrow, tie it around your waist." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then we went on with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and each of us was given one date per day as ration, and he would suck it, then keep turning it in his teeth. And we would beat down the leaves of trees with our bows and eat them, until (from the heat, dryness, and eating leaves) our mouths became sore inside. Then one day the one distributing dates forgot one man. We took that man up and bore witness that he had not received a date. The distributor gave him a date. He stood up and took the date. Then we went on with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) until we halted in a broad valley. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to relieve himself. I too followed behind him (peace be upon him) with a bucket of water. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) found no cover. He looked, and there were two trees at the edge of the valley. He (peace be upon him) went to one tree, took hold of one of its branches, then said (to the tree), "Become obedient to me by the command of Allah." It became obedient to him (peace be upon him) like a camel into whose nose a peg is put and which becomes obedient to the one leading it. Then he (peace be upon him) went to the other tree and took hold of one of its branches too and said, "Become obedient to me by the command of Allah." It too became obedient to him (peace be upon him) likewise, until, when he (peace be upon him) reached between the two trees, he brought them together and said, "Join together before me by the command of Allah," and both trees joined together. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ran off, out of fear that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) might see me near and go further away. I sat talking to myself, when suddenly I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) coming from in front, and the two trees had separated and were standing on their roots. I saw him (peace be upon him) stand a little while and gesture with his head thus, to the right and left, then he came forward. When he reached me, he said, "O Jabir! Did you see where I stood?" Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace be upon him) said, "Go to those two trees and cut a branch from each and bring them. When you reach the place where I stood, cast one branch to your right and one branch to your left." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I stood up and took a stone, broke it, and sharpened it. When it was sharp, I came to the two trees and cut a branch from each, then I dragged those branches to the place where the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had stood, and cast one branch to the right and one branch to the left, then went and joined him (peace be upon him) and submitted, "I have done what you (peace be upon him) said, but what is the reason for it?" He (peace be upon him) said, "I saw that there are two graves there, and the occupants of those graves are being punished, so I wished to intercede for them; as long as these branches remain fresh, perhaps their punishment may be lightened." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then we came to the army. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "O Jabir! Call the people for the water of ablution." I called out three times and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! There is not a drop of water in the caravan." There was an Ansari man who used to cool water for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in a waterskin that hung on the branches of a tree. He (peace be upon him) said, "Go to that Ansari and see whether there is any water in his skin." I went and looked, and there was no water in the skin, only a single drop in its mouth, such that if I poured it out, the dry skin itself would drink it. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! There is no water in this skin, only a single drop in its mouth; if I pour it out, the dry skin itself would drink it." He (peace be upon him) said, "Go and bring me that skin." I brought that very skin. He (peace be upon him) took it in his hand, then began saying something with his tongue that I could not understand, and he kept pressing the skin with his hand. Then he handed the skin to me and said, "O Jabir, call out for the caravan's large vessel (that is, the big water container)." I called out, and it was brought. People carried it and brought it. I placed that vessel before him (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed his hand into that vessel, spreading it thus and widening his fingers, then placed his hand at its bottom and said, "O Jabir! Take that skin and pour it over my hand, and pour saying 'Bismillah.'" I said 'Bismillah' and poured that water. Then I looked, and water was gushing from between his (peace be upon him) fingers, until the vessel gushed and swirled and became full. He (peace be upon him) said, "O Jabir! Call out that whoever needs water (should come)." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The people came and took water until all were satisfied. I said, "Is there anyone left who needs water?" Then he (peace be upon him) lifted his hand from the vessel, and it was full of water. And the people complained to him (peace be upon him) of hunger. He (peace be upon him) said, "It is near that Allah will feed you." Then we came to the shore of the sea. A wave of the sea surged and cast out a creature. We kindled a fire at its edge and roasted and cooked the meat of that creature and ate our fill. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then I and so-and-so, five men, went inside the socket of its eye, and no one could see us until we came out (so large was the creature). Then we took a rib from among its ribs, and we called from the caravan the man who was the biggest and who rode the biggest camel with the biggest saddle upon it, and he passed under that rib without bowing his head (so high was the rib of that creature. Indeed, Allah gives to those who go out in His way).
Urdu Translation
سیدنا عبادہ بن ولید بن عبادہ بن صامت رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے کہمیں اور میرا والد حصول علم کی غرض سے قبیلہ انصار کی طرف نکلے مبادا یہ کہ ان کا کوئی فرد باقی نہ رہے (فوت ہو جائیں یا ادھر ادھر ہجرت کر جائیں)۔ چنانچہ سب سے پہلے ہم ابوالیسر سے ملے جو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے صحابی تھے۔ ان کے ساتھ ان کا غلام بھی تھا جو کتابوں (خطوں) کا ایک بنڈل لئے ہوئے تھا۔ اور ابوالیسر کے بدن پر ایک چادر تھی اور ایک معافری نامی ایک کپڑا تھا۔ ان کے غلام پر بھی ایک چادر تھی اور ایک معافری کپڑا تھا (یعنی مالک اور غلام دونوں ایک ہی طرح کا لباس پہنے ہوئے تھے)۔ میں نے ان سے کہا کہ اے چچا آپ کچھ رنجیدہ معلوم ہوتے ہیں۔ وہ بولے کہ بنی حرام قبیلے کے فلاں بن فلاں پر میرا قرض آتا تھا، میں اس کے گھر والوں کے پاس گیا، سلام کیا اور پوچھا کہ وہ شخص کہاں ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ نہیں ہے۔ اتنے میں اس کا ایک نوجوان بیٹا باہر نکلا۔ میں نے اس سے پوچھا کہ تیرا باپ کہاں ہے؟ وہ بولا کہ آپ کی آواز سن کر میری ماں کے چھپر گھٹ میں گھس گیا ہے۔ تب میں نے آواز دی اور کہا کہ اے فلاں! باہر نکل مجھے معلوم ہو گیا ہے کہ تو کہاں ہے۔ یہ سن کر وہ باہر نکلا۔ میں نے کہا کہ تو مجھ سے چھپ کیوں رہا ہے؟ وہ بولا کہ اللہ کی قسم میں تم سے جھوٹ نہیں بولوں گا، اللہ کی قسم میں ڈرا کہ آپ سے جھوٹ بات کروں یا وعدہ کروں اور اس کے خلاف کروں اور تم صحابی رسول ہو، اور اللہ کی قسم میں محتاج ہوں۔ میں نے اللہ کی قسم دے کر پوچھا کہ کیا تم واقعی محتاج ہو؟ تو اس نے اللہ کی قسم کھائی اور کہا کہ میں محتاج ہوں۔ میں نے پھر قسم دے کر پوچھا تو اس نے پھر قسم کھائی، میں نے پھر قسم دی تو اس نے پھر اللہ کی قسم کھائی۔ پھر اس کا وثیقہ یا نوشتہ (قرض نامہ) لایا گیا۔ ابوالیسر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اسے اپنے ہاتھ سے مٹا دیا اور کہا کہ اگر تیرے پاس روپیہ آئے تو ادا کرنا وگرنہ تو آزاد ہے۔ پس میں گواہی دیتا ہوں، میری ان دونوں آنکھوں کی بصارت نے دیکھا اور ابوالیسر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنی دونوں انگلیاں اپنی آنکھوں پر رکھیں اور میرے ان دونوں کانوں نے سنا اور میرے دل نے یاد رکھا اور ابوالیسر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنے دل کی رگ کی طرف اشارہ کیا (اور کہا) کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے کہ جو شخص کسی تنگدست کو مہلت دے یا قرض معاف کر دے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کو اپنے سایہ میں رکھے گا۔ عبادہ نے کہا کہ میں نے ان سے کہا کہ اے چچا اگر تم اپنے غلام کی چادر لے لو اور اپنا معافری کپڑا اس کو دے دو، تو تمہارے پاس بھی ایک جوڑا پورا ہو جائے گا اور اس کے پاس بھی ایک جوڑا ہو جائے گا۔ ابوالیسر رضی اللہ عنہ نے میرے سر پر ہاتھ پھیرا اور کہا یا اللہ اس لڑکے کو برکت دے، اے میرے بھتیجے! میری ان دونوں آنکھوں نے دیکھا اور ان دونوں کانوں نے سنا اور میرے اس دل نے یاد رکھا اور اپنے دل کی رگ کی طرف اشارہ کیا (اور کہا) کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے کہ لونڈی اور غلام کو کھلاؤ جو تم کھاتے ہو اور وہی پہناؤ جو تم پہنتے ہو۔ پھر اگر میں اس کو دنیا کا سامان دے دوں تو وہ میرے نزدیک اس سے آسان ہے کہ وہ قیامت کے دن میری نیکیاں لے لے۔ عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا پھر ہم چلے یہاں تک کہ سیدنا جابر بن عبداللہ انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس ان کی مسجد میں پہنچے، وہ ایک کپڑا لپیٹے ہوئے نماز پڑھ رہے تھے۔ میں لوگوں کی گردنیں پھلانگتا ہوا ان کے اور قبلہ کے درمیان میں جا بیٹھا۔ میں نے کہا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ آپ پر رحم کرے، آپ ایک کپڑے میں نماز پڑھتے ہیں حالانکہ آپ کی (دوسری) چادر آپ کے پہلو میں رکھی ہے۔ انہوں نے اپنے ہاتھ سے میرے سینے پر اس طرح سے اشارہ کیا، انگلیوں کو کشادہ رکھتے ہوئے انہیں کمان کی طرح خم کیا اور کہا کہ میں نے یہ چاہا کہ تیری مانند کوئی احمق میرے پاس آئے، پھر وہ مجھے دیکھے جو میں کرتا ہوں اور ویسا ہی کرے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمہماری اس مسجد میں آئے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ہاتھ میں ابن طاب (کھجور) کی ایک چھڑی تھی۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مسجد میں قبلہ کی طرف بلغم دیکھا (کسی نے تھوکا تھا)، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کو لکڑی سے کھرچ ڈالا۔ پھر ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا کہ تم میں سے کون یہ بات پسند کرتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اس کی طرف سے منہ پھیر لے؟ ہم یہ سن کر ڈر گئے۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم میں سے کون یہ چاہتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اس کی طرف سے منہ پھیر لے؟ ہم یہ سن کر ڈر گئے۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم میں سے کون یہ چاہتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اس کی طرف سے منہ پھیر لے؟ ہم نے عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! ہم میں سے تو کوئی بھی یہ نہیں چاہتا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ جب کوئی تم میں سے نماز میں کھڑا ہو تو اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ اس کے منہ کے سامنے ہوتا ہے (نووی نے کہا یعنی جہت جس کو اللہ تعالیٰ نے عظمت دی یا کعبہ)، تو اپنے منہ کے سامنے نہ تھوکے اور نہ داہنی طرف بلکہ بائیں طرف بائیں پاؤں کے نیچے (تھوکے)۔ اگر بلغم جلدی نکلنا چاہے تو اپنے کپڑے میں تھوک کر ایسا کر لے، پھر اپنے کپڑے کو تہہ در تہہ لپیٹا۔ اس کے بعد فرمایا کہ میرے پاس خوشبو لاؤ۔ ہمارے قبیلے کا ایک جوان لپکا اور دوڑتا ہوا اپنے گھر میں گیا اور اپنی ہتھیلی میں خوشبو لے آیا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس خوشبو کو لکڑی کی نوک پر لگایا اور جہاں اس بلغم کا نشان مسجد پر تھا وہاں خوشبو لگا دی۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ اس حدیث سے تم اپنی مسجدوں میں خوشبو رکھتے ہو۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ بطن بواط کی لڑائی میں چلے (وہ جہینہ کے پہاڑوں میں سے ایک پہاڑ ہے)۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممجدی بن عمرو جہنی کی تلاش میں تھے (جو ایک کافر تھا) اور ہم لوگوں کا یہ حال تھا کہ پانچ اور چھ اور سات آدمیوں میں ایک اونٹ تھا، جس پر باری باری سوار ہوتے تھے۔ چنانچہ ایک انصاری کی باری آئی، اس نے اونٹ کو بٹھایا، اس پر چڑھا، پھر اس کو اٹھایا تو اونٹ کچھ اڑا۔ وہ انصاری بولا”شائ“(یہ کلمہ ہے اونٹ کو ڈانٹنے کا) اللہ تجھ پر لعنت کرے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا یہ کون ہے جو اپنے اونٹ پر لعنت کرتا ہے؟ وہ انصاری بولا کہ میں ہوں یا رسول اللہ!۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اس اونٹ پر سے اتر جا اور ہمارے ساتھ وہ نہ رہے جس پر لعنت کی گئی ہو۔ اپنی جانوں، اپنی اولاد اور اپنے مالوں کے لئے بددعا نہ کرو۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ یہ بددعا اس ساعت نکلے کہ جب اللہ تعالیٰ سے کچھ مانگا جاتا ہے اور وہ قبول کر لیتا ہے (تو تمہاری بددعا بھی قبول ہو جائے اور تم پر آفت آ جائے)۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ چلے، جب شام ہوئی اور عرب کے ایک چشمے کے قریب آئے تو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ کون شخص ہم لوگوں سے آگے بڑھ کر اس حوض کو درست کرے گا، خود بھی پیئے اور ہم کو بھی پلائے؟ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں کھڑا ہوا اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! میں وہ شخص ہوں۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا اور کون شخص جابر کے ساتھ جائے گا؟ چنانچہ جبار بن صخر اٹھے۔ خیر ہم دونوں آدمی کنویں / چشمے کی طرف چلے اور حوض میں ایک یا دو ڈول ڈالے، پھر اس پر مٹی لگائی۔ اس کے بعد اس میں پانی بھرنا شروع کیا، یہاں تک کہ لبالب بھر دیا۔ سب سے پہلے ہم کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمدکھائی دیئے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم دونوں (مجھے اور میرے جانوروں کو پانی پینے پلانے کی) اجازت دیتے ہو؟ ہم نے عرض کیا”جی ہاں یا رسول اللہ!“۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اپنی اونٹنی کو چھوڑا، اس نے پانی پیا، پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کی باگ کھینچی اس نے پانی پینا موقوف کیا اور پیشاب کیا۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس کو الگ لے گئے اور بٹھا دیا۔ اس کے بعد رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمحوض کی طرف آئے، اس میں سے وضو کیا۔ میں بھی کھڑا ہوا اور جہاں سے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے وضو کیا تھا میں نے بھی وہیں سے وضو کیا۔ جبار بن صخر رضی اللہ عنہ قضائے حاجت کے لئے چلے گئے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز پڑھنے کے لئے کھڑے ہو گئے۔ میرے بدن پر ایک چادر تھی۔ میں اس کے دونوں کناروں کو الٹنے لگا، وہ چھوٹی ہوئی، اس (چادر) میں پھندے لگے تھے۔ آخر میں نے اس کو الٹا کیا، پھر اس کے دونوں کنارے الٹے، پھر اس کو اپنی گردن سے باندھا، اس کے بعد آ کر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی بائیں طرف کھڑا ہو گیا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے میرا ہاتھ پکڑا، گھمایا اور داہنی طرف کھڑا کر لیا۔ پھر جبار بن صخر آئے، انہوں نے بھی وضو کیا اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی بائیں طرف (نماز پڑھنے کے لئے) کھڑے ہو گئے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہم دونوں کے ہاتھ پکڑے اور پیچھے ہٹا دیا یہاں تک کہ ہم کو اپنے پیچھے کھڑا کیا (معلوم ہوا کہ اتنا عمل نماز میں درست ہے)۔ پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مجھ کو گھورنا شروع کیا اور مجھ کو خبر نہیں۔ خبر ہوئی تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اپنے ہاتھ سے اشارہ کیا کہ اپنی کمر باندھ لے (تاکہ ستر نہ کھلے)۔ جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو کہا کہ اے جابر! میں نے عرض کیا کہ حاضر ہوں یا رسول اللہ!۔ آپ نے فرمایا جب چادر کشادہ ہو تو اس کے دونوں کنارے الٹ لے اور جب تنگ ہو تو اس کو کمر پر باندھ لے۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ پھر ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ چلے اور ہم میں سے ہر ایک شخص کو خوراک کے لئے ہر روز ایک کھجور ملتی تھی اور وہ اس کو چوس لیتا تھا۔ پھر اس کو اپنے دانتوں میں پھراتا۔ اور ہم اپنی کمانوں سے درخت کے پتے جھاڑتے اور ان کو کھاتے، یہاں تک کہ (گرمی، خشکی اور پتے کھاتے کھاتے) ہمارے منہ اندر سے زخمی ہو گئے۔ پھر ایک دن کھجور بانٹنے والا ایک شخص کو بھول گیا۔ ہم اس شخص کو اٹھا کر لے گئے اور گواہی دی کہ اس کو کھجور نہیں ملی۔ بانٹنے والے نے اس کو کھجور دی۔ وہ کھڑا ہو گیا اور کھجور لے لی۔ پھر ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ چلے، یہاں تک کہ ایک کشادہ وادی میں اترے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمحاجت کو تشریف لے گئے۔ ایک ڈول پانی لے کر میں بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پیچھے چلا گیا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے کوئی آڑ نہ پائی۔ دیکھا تو دو درخت وادی کے کنارے پر لگے ہوئے تھے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمایک درخت کے پاس گئے، اس کی ایک شاخ پکڑی، پھر (درخت سے) فرمایا کہ اللہ کے حکم سے میرا تابعدار ہو جا۔ وہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکا تابعدار ہو گیا جیسے وہ اونٹ جس کی ناک میں نکیل ڈال دی جاتی ہے اور وہ اپنے کھینچے والے کا تابعدار ہو جاتا ہے۔ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمدوسرے درخت کے پاس گئے اور اس کی بھی ایک شاخ پکڑی اور فرمایا کہ اللہ کے حکم سے میرا تابعدار ہو جا۔ وہ بھی اسی طرح آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے تابع ہو گیا یہاں تک کہ جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمان درختوں کے درمیان میں پہنچے تو ان کو ایک ساتھ کر کے فرمایا کہ اللہ کے حکم سے میرے سامنے جڑ جاؤ، چنانچہ وہ دونوں درخت جڑ گئے۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں دوڑتا ہوا نکلا اس ڈر سے کہ کہیں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممجھ کو نزدیک دیکھیں اور زیادہ دور کہیں تشریف لے جائیں۔ میں بیٹھا اپنے دل میں باتیں کئے جا رہا تھا کہ اچانک میں نے دیکھا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسامنے سے تشریف لا رہے ہیں اور وہ دونوں درخت جدا ہو کر اپنی جڑ پر کھڑے ہو گئے تھے۔ میں نے دیکھا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمتھوڑی دیر کھڑے ہوئے اور سر سے اس طرح دائیں اور بائیں اشارہ کیا، پھر سامنے آئے۔ جب میرے پاس پہنچے تو فرمایا اے جابر! میں جہاں کھڑا تھا تو نے دیکھا؟ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا کہ”جی ہاں یا رسول اللہ!“آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم ان دونوں درختوں کے پاس جاؤ اور ہر ایک میں سے ایک ایک شاخ کاٹ کر لے آؤ۔ جب اس جگہ پہنچے جہاں میں کھڑا ہوا تھا تو ایک شاخ اپنی داہنی طرف ڈال دے اور ایک ڈالی بائیں طرف۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں کھڑا ہوا اور ایک پتھر لیا، اس کو توڑ کر تیز کیا۔ وہ تیز ہو گیا تو ان دونوں درختوں کے پاس آیا اور ہر ایک میں سے ایک ایک شاخ کاٹی، پھر میں ان شاخوں کو کھینچتا ہوا اس جگہ پر لے آیا جہاں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمٹھہرے تھے اور ایک شاخ داہنی طرف ڈال دی اور ایک شاخ بائیں طرف ڈال دی، پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے جا کر مل گیا اور عرض کیا کہ جو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا تھا وہ میں نے کر دیا، لیکن اس کی وجہ کیا ہے؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ میں نے دیکھا کہ وہاں دو قبریں ہیں، ان قبر والوں پر عذاب ہو رہا ہے تو میں نے چاہا کہ ان کی سفارش کروں، جب تک یہ شاخیں ہری رہیں گی شاید ان کے عذاب میں تخفیف ہو۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ پھر ہم لشکر میں آئے۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا اے جابر! لوگوں وضو کے پانی کے لئے آواز لگاؤ۔ میں نے تین دفعہ آواز دی اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! قافلہ میں ایک قطرہ پانی کا نہیں ہے۔ ایک انصاری مرد تھا جو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے لئے ایک مشک میں جو لکڑی کی شاخوں پر لٹکتی تھی، پانی ٹھنڈا کیا کرتا تھا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اس انصاری کے پاس جاؤ اور دیکھو، کیا اس کی مشک میں کچھ پانی ہے؟ میں گیا، دیکھا تو مشک میں پانی نہیں، اس کے منہ میں صرف ایک قطرہ ہے کہ اگر اس کو انڈیلوں تو سوکھی مشک اس کو بھی پی لے۔ میں رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آیا اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! اس مشک میں تو پانی نہیں ہے صرف ایک قطرہ اس کے منہ میں ہے، اگر میں اس کو انڈیلوں تو سوکھی مشک اس کو بھی پی جائے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا جاؤ اور اس مشک کو میرے پاس لے آؤ۔ میں اسی مشک کو لے آیا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس کو اپنے ہاتھ میں لیا، پھر زبان سے کچھ فرمانے لگے جس کو میں سمجھ نہ سکا اور مشک کو اپنے ہاتھ سے دباتے جاتے تھے۔ پھر وہ مشک میرے حوالے کی اور فرمایا کہ اے جابر آواز دے کہ قافلے کا گھڑا لاؤ (یعنی پانی والا بڑا برتن)۔ میں نے آواز دی وہ (برتن) لایا گیا۔ لوگ اس کو اٹھا کر لائے۔ میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے سامنے وہ برتن رکھ دیا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اپنا ہاتھ اس گھڑے میں پھیر کر اس طرح سے پھیلا کر انگلیوں کو کشادہ کیا، پھر اپنا ہاتھ اس کی تہہ میں رکھ دیا اور فرمایا اے جابر! وہ مشک لے اور میرے ہاتھ پر ڈال دے اور بسم اللہ کہہ کر ڈالنا۔ میں نے بسم اللہ کہہ کر وہ پانی ڈال دیا۔ پھر میں نے دیکھا تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی انگلیوں کے درمیان سے پانی جوش مار رہا تھا، یہاں تک کہ گھڑے نے جوش مارا اور گھوما اور بھر گیا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا، اے جابر! آواز دے کہ جس کو پانی کی حاجت ہو (وہ آئے)۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا لوگ آئے، پانی لیا یہاں تک کہ سب سیر ہو گئے۔ میں نے کہا کوئی ایسا بھی رہا جس کو پانی کی ضرورت ہو؟ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اپنا ہاتھ گھڑے سے اٹھا لیا اور وہ پانی سے بھرا ہوا تھا۔ اور لوگوں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے بھوک کی شکایت کی۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ قریب ہے کہ اللہ تم کو کھلائے۔ پھر ہم دریا (یعنی سمندر) کے کنارے پر آئے۔ سمندر کی لہر نے جوش مارا اور ایک جانور باہر ڈال دیا۔ ہم نے اس کے کنارے آگ سلگائی اور اس جانور کا گوشت بھون کر پکایا اور سیر ہو کر کھایا۔ سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ پھر میں اور فلاں فلاں پانچ آدمی اس کی آنکھ کے گولے میں گھس گئے، ہم کو کوئی نہ دیکھتا تھا یہاں تک کہ ہم باہر نکلے (اتنا بڑا جانور تھا)۔ پھر ہم نے اس کی پسلیوں میں سے پسلی لی اور قافلے میں سے اس شخص کو بلایا جو سب سے بڑا تھا اور سب سے بڑے اونٹ پر سوار تھا اور سب سے بڑا زین اس پر تھا تو وہ اپنا سر جھکائے بغیر اس پسلی کے نیچے سے گزر گیا (اتنی اونچی اس جانور کی پسلی تھی۔ بیشک اللہ اپنے راہ میں نکلنے والوں کو دیتا ہے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1537]
