English Translation

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The first people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who was martyred. He will be brought and made aware of his blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Allah will say: 'What did you do about them?' He will say: 'I fought in Your cause until I was martyred.' He will say: 'You have lied. You fought so that it would be said: He is brave. And so it was said.' Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face and thrown into the Fire. Then a man who studied knowledge and taught it and recited the Quran will be brought. He will be made aware of his blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Allah will say: 'What did you do about them?' He will say: 'I studied knowledge and taught it and recited the Quran for Your sake.' He will say: 'You have lied. You studied knowledge so it would be said: He is a scholar, and you recited the Quran so it would be said: He is a reciter. And so it was said.' Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face and thrown into the Fire. Then a man whom Allah made wealthy and gave him all kinds of wealth will be brought. He will be made aware of his blessings, and he will acknowledge them. Allah will say: 'What did you do about them?' He will say: 'I did not leave any cause in which You like wealth to be spent except that I spent in it for Your sake.' He will say: 'You have lied. You did it so it would be said: He is generous. And so it was said.' Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face and thrown into the Fire." Narrated by Muslim.
