English Translation
Ahmad bin Ali bin al-Muthanna narrated to us, Muhammad bin Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'ba narrated to us from al-A'mash from Abu Salih from Abu Hurayra from the Prophet (ﷺ) who said: 'A man from Banu Isra'il asked another man from Banu Isra'il to lend him one thousand dinars, and he lent them to him. Then he traveled on a ship, but he could not find a ship. So he took a piece of wood and carved it out, and put the one thousand dinars inside it with a letter. Then he brought it to the sea and said: O Allah, You know that I borrowed one thousand dinars from so-and-so, and he asked me for a guarantee but I said: The guarantee of Allah is sufficient. He was satisfied with that. And he asked me for a witness, but I said: Allah is sufficient as a witness. He was satisfied with that. And I have tried to find a ship to bring him his money, but I could not find one. So I entrust it to You. Then he threw it into the sea, and it went until it reached the shore near the man. So he took the wood to his family as firewood. When he split it, he found the money and the letter.'
