أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ سِنَانَ بْنَ أَبِي سِنَانٍ الدُّؤَلِيَّ وَهُمْ حُلَفَاءُ بَنِي الدِّيلِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ يَقُولُ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمَّا افْتَتَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَكَّةَ خَرَجَ بِنَا مَعَهُ قِبَلَ هَوَازِنَ حَتَّى مَرَرْنَا عَلَى سِدْرَةِ الْكُفَّارِ سِدْرَةٌ يَعْكِفُونَ حَوْلَهَا وَيَدْعُونَهَا ذَاتَ أَنْوَاطٍ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْ لَنَا ذَاتَ أَنْوَاطٍ كَمَا لَهُمْ ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ إِنَّهَا السُّنَنُ هَذَا كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى {اجْعَلْ لَنَا إِلَهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ} ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ » إِنَّكُمْ لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سَنَنَ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ «
English Translation
Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Qutaybah informed us, Harmalah narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, Yunus informed me from Ibn Shihab that Sinan ibn Abi Sinan al-Du'ali - and they are allies of Banu al-Dil - informed him that he heard Abu Waqid al-Laythi say - and he was among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): When the Messenger of Allah conquered Mecca, he went out with us toward Hawazin until we passed by a lote-tree of the disbelievers, a tree they would gather around and call Dhat Anwat. We said: O Messenger of Allah, make for us a Dhat Anwat as they have a Dhat Anwat. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Allahu Akbar! These are the ways (of those before). This is just as the Children of Israel said to Musa: {Make for us a god just as they have gods. He said: Indeed, you are a people behaving ignorantly.}" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "You will certainly follow the ways of those before you."
